Ryan collaborated with Oxfam Canada to redesign the website so it could better connect with younger, values-driven audiences and more effectively translate global work into meaningful participation.

Oxfam Canada is part of the global Oxfam confederation, working to advance gender equality, respond to humanitarian crises, and address the root causes of poverty worldwide. As one of the organization’s most important public-facing tools, Oxfam Canada’s website plays a critical role in engaging supporters, communicating impact, and mobilizing action.

The Challenge

While Oxfam Canada had strong brand recognition and credibility, its existing website was not fully supporting the organization’s mission. The site struggled to engage younger audiences with limited time and high expectations for clarity, translate complex global issues into accessible and motivating stories, and convert interest into sustained action—particularly around gender justice.

The challenge was not awareness, but connection, momentum, and follow-through. The website needed to move beyond information delivery and become a platform that helped people quickly understand why the work matters and how they could meaningfully participate.

Our Approach

The redesign was guided by one central question:
How can the website move people from understanding to action—faster, and with greater confidence?

Working closely with the Oxfam Canada team, the approach focused on repositioning the site as a platform for participation rather than a repository of information.

Content and navigation were reorganized around purpose and impact, making it easier for new audiences to understand Oxfam Canada’s role in advancing gender justice. User journeys were simplified to reduce friction, with clearer hierarchy, scannable layouts, and fewer decision points—especially on mobile, where younger audiences primarily engage.

Storytelling was treated as essential infrastructure. Clear language, thoughtful pacing, and visual restraint helped balance emotional resonance with credibility and trust. Calls-to-action were designed to support long-term engagement rather than one-time interactions, aligning the digital experience with Oxfam Canada’s movement-building goals.

The Impact

The redesigned website presents Oxfam Canada as a clear, confident, and contemporary leader in gender justice and global equality. Simplified navigation and focused user journeys help visitors quickly grasp the organization’s mission and find meaningful ways to get involved.

By pairing human stories with accessible explanations of complex global work, the site strengthens trust while making participation feel achievable and relevant. The design system supports clarity and consistency across content, allowing Oxfam Canada to communicate impact more effectively and sustain engagement over time.

The result is a digital platform that better reflects Oxfam Canada’s values, supports its advocacy goals, and helps turn awareness into action.
